Employers may have to dig deeper into their pockets next month as the limits on certain Employment Tribunal awards will increase with effect from next Friday. The two key changes to be aware of are as follows:

  • the limit on the compensatory award for "ordinary" unfair dismissal will increase from £60,600 to £63,000; and
  • the maximum amount of a week's pay for the purposes of calculating statutory redundancy payments and the basic award in unfair dismissal claims will increase from £310 to £330.

These new limits will apply to dismissals where the effective date of termination falls on or after 1 February 2008.
