On December 03, during the 6th Brazilian National Anticounterfeiting Council (CNCP) meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by and between CNCP and advertising market agents and associations to reduce monetization of websites and mobile apps that violate intellectual property rights. The goal is to minimize the placement of advertising in digital spaces that sell counterfeit products.

In addition to this document, the CNCP also signed, throughout 2019, other memoranda concerning online counterfeiting, such as the memorandum with the United Kingdom and the US authorities for cooperation and defense of intellectual property; and with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to create lists of websites dedicated primarily to counterfeiting.

The CNCP has independence and autonomy within the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Safety and has the mission of protecting consumers - the main victims of counterfeiting – while also acting, nationally and internationally, in the fight against this crime.
