Election Watch - Labor's Small Business Policy

The Shadow Minister for Small Business, Hon Stephen Martin MP, released Labor's Small Business Policy on 17 September 1998. Some of the specific small business initiatives proposed include:

  • provision of a payment, akin to a commission, to small business for collecting PAYE style-tax instalments (from 1999-00) commitment of $5 million each year (from 2000-01) to ensure that small business in regional Australia have direct and personal access to Government programs
  • provision of $40 million for small scale locally delivered enterprise improvement programs (assistance by way of direct grants or through the establishment of locally based enterprise improvement centres).
