Solar Lab Unveiled at Frankford High School, Aiming to Train Students in Green Careers

Sponsored by the Philadelphia Energy Association, U.S. Department of Energy, and PECO, city leaders  unveiled a new solar lab at Frankford High School. The lab is designed to train students on the skills required for jobs in solar and clean energy.

City Council Holds Hearing on Philadelphia Film Office

This week, City Council heard from community members on the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and the impact it has on the region. The Film Office has not received city funding for the past two years, and speakers at the hearing touted the impact the office has on showcasing and exporting Philadelphia on the world stage.

Tangled Title Bill Passes Out of Committee

On Monday, the Committee on Commerce and Economic Development passed a bill that would require funeral homes to share information about probating estates and preventing tangled titles with customers. 

Councilmember Gauthier's Affordable Housing Bill Voted Out of Committee

The owner of an affordable housing complex in West Philadelphia decided to not renew its affordable housing contract and sell the property; Councilmember Gauthier is pushing a bill that is intended to preserve its affordable units. It passed out of the Rules Committee on Tuesday.

Council Hearings Ahead:

  • Friday, October 29 at 9:00 a.m.: The Committee on Housing, Neighborhood Development, and the Homeless will hold a hearing on preserving community gardens and open spaces in the city.
  • Monday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.: The Committee on Public Safety will hold a hearing on the removal of abandoned vehicles by public safety officers.

Wednesday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m.: The Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention will hold a hearing the city's gun violence prevention strategy.
