YUKON, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES AND NUNAVUT Canada Labour Code, RSC 1985, c L-2, s 9
Labour Law in the Territories The federal government has exclusive legislative authority over the territories

While parliament has delegated a certain degree of self-government to the territories by way of legislation such as the Northwest Territories Act, its jurisdiction in the area of labour relations remains intact

The Supreme Court of Canada confirmed this conclusion in City of Yellowknife and Public Alliance of Canada (Re), (1975), 76 DLR (3d) 85, when it rejected the argument that, when applied to the territories, the Canada Labour Code would apply only to those acts that constituted a "federal work, undertaking or business."
