The Unified Patent Court was set up by the 2013 UPC Agreement. Parts of this agreement entered into legal force in January 2022, meaning that the new court now exists as a legal institution.

The Unified Patent Court was set up by the 2013 UPC Agreement. Parts of this agreement entered into legal force in January 2022, meaning that the new court now exists as a legal institution. It is busy recruiting judges and other staff and its IT systems are being completed. The current expectation is that the new court will enter into full operation and start accepting its first cases in the first half of 2023. This video also covers:
