On 19 August 2016, by means of Resolution 001-2016-CD-IEPI, the Ecuadorian Patent Office (IEPI in Spanish) decreased its patent prosecution and renewal fees by 90%.  The new Resolution eliminates the exorbitant fees increases made between 2012 and 2014.  The previous rates made Ecuador one of the most expensive countries in the world to file, prosecute and maintain a patent.
