Economy Minister Silvio Schembri and Malta Enterprise CEO Kurt Farrugia have launched the Electricity Bill Refund Scheme for businesses and self-employed individuals.
This scheme is intended to reimburse businesses for to 50% of their electricity bills incurred for the months of July, August, and September. Any entities / individuals have that benefitted from the COVID Wage Supplement, be it by virtue of Annex A, B, or C, are deemed to be eligible for the refund scheme.
Applicants with one outlet may claim up to €1,500, whilst those with multiple outlets and thus, consequently, having more than one electricity bill, may claim up to €7,500, depending on the number of employees in receipt of the COVID Wage Supplement.
Malta Enterprise shall be sending an email to all those businesses and self-employed individuals who have benefitted / are benefitting from the COVID Wage Supplement. In such email there will be the link to the online application for the scheme in question. The relative Account Number is to be verified after the applicant has submitted a scanned copy of an electricity bill issued prior to July 2020.
Malta Enterprise shall then verify with ARMS the amount paid by the applicant on electricity bills for the months of July, August and September and the relative refunds will then be affected in the same way as has so far been done for the COVID Wage Supplement. The refund will be issued by means of more than one payment. Meanwhile, the closing date for this scheme has yet to be announced.
