In his Budget 2000 speech, the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy, stated that the Government is prepared to look at the issue of profit sharing and gain sharing "provided that any such incentives are properly focused and justified".

The Minister has announced the establishment of a Consultative Committee involving various public and private representatives to prepare proposals for consideration for Budget 2001. We welcome this development. In this competitive labour environment, it is vital that Irish industry is supported by taxation and other initiatives which enhance employee participation in economic growth.
