Call issued for Argentina-Chile interconnection studies

Studies are expected to begin this year as part of energy integration efforts between Argentina and Chile.

In December, Argentina's energy minister Juan José Aranguren and his Chilean counterpart Andrés Rebolledo discussed a transmission project linking Argentina's SADI grid and Chile's central SIC system.

The countries are already connected, via the Central Salta-Andes 345kV line which became operational in February 2016 and links SADI with Chile's northern SING grid. There were no exchanges in January, according to Chile's grid coordinator.

In the latest development, Latin America development bank CAFand Chile's energy ministry launched a call to study the economic dispatch benefits and regulatory aspects of interconnections, and alternatives.

Expressions of interest for the eight-month contract will be received through March 24,  according to reference terms.
