By Resolution of 'RENAPER', starting November 1st 2017, the digital Argentine National Identity Card (or valid passport) will be required to travel to Mercosur countries and Associated States.

Starting November 1, it will be mandatory to travel with the digital Argentine National Identity Card (or valid passport) to Mercosur countries and Associated States, either by air or terrestrial travel, maritime or river navigation, through any of the 236 border crossings authorized for leaving national territory.

'RENPAER' Resolution N° 480/2016 provides that only "customized from factory with picture, signature and digital impressions" Argentine National Identity Cards, and passports, will be admitted to leave the country. This ruling is defined by the need of guaranteeing citizenship security and international transit. It includes Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The Associated States of Surinam and Guyana are excluded.

Handwritten ID documents '(Libreta Cívica, Libreta de Enrolamiento and green DNI)' shall keep their validity until March 31st 2017 for all other purposes. Since then, the exchange for new format will be mandatory in all cases.
