San Francisco partners Tessa Schwartz and Timothy Chen Saulsbury have both been named winners at The Recorder's 2023 California Legal Awards. Tessa Schwartz was named a Women Leader in Tech Law, while Tim Chen Saulsbury was named a 2023 Lawyer on the Fast Track. The annual awards celebrate the achievements of lawyers and companies leading technology, innovation, and the profession as a whole.
Co-chair of MoFo's transactions department and co-founder of the firm's market-leading AI practice, Tessa advises on high-impact and headline-making IP, commercial, and M&A transactions for tech leaders and emerging and large public companies. Tessa's work includes a blockbuster deal for Unity, with its asset carve-out acquisition from Weta Digital of certain assets, including its audio-visual effects development and management software tools for a purchase price of $1.625 billion in a combination of cash and stock, and Salesforce's $27.7 billion acquisition of Slack Technologies—the second-largest software deal in history that united two of San Francisco's biggest tech leaders. Tessa's contributions go beyond her private practice and she's widely considered to be a woman leader in technology who is inspiring the next generation of women legal leaders.
Tim, co-chair of the firm's global IP Litigation Group, represents many of the world's leading technology companies in high-stakes patent and technology disputes and has served as lead counsel for the likes of VMware, Zoom, Atlassian, Pinterest, Wix.com, and Tonal. This recognition is one of several that Tim has recently received, having been named one of the "Top Intellectual Property Lawyers" in California by the Daily Journal and one of the top 40 lawyers in the country under 40 by Bloomberg Law.
