A Billings, Montana high school teacher recently pled guilty to a criminal violation of the federal Clean Air Act for arranging the removal of a small area of asbestos floor tiles without meeting all of the detailed regulatory requirements governing asbestos in school buildings. This unfortunate case serves as an abject reminder that asbestos regulations reach into every nook and cranny of every school building and that the consequences of noncompliance can be dire, even for individual employees who unknowingly violate these complex legal requirements.
