Bindmans have started a multi-million pound damages claim on behalf of more than 50 victims of the Richmond House fire against the construction company, St James Ltd, a subsidiary of Berkeley, and against the owner, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Association.

The Sunday Times covered some of the victims’ experiences this weekend together with coverage of many other victims of the cladding scandal.

The victims of the Richmond House fire are key worker shared-ownership leaseholders and their families, including nurses and teachers. They had to run for their lives and many were injured. They also lost their homes and all of their possessions.

Independent expert reports have found St James and Berkeley built Richmond House without adequate fire safety, including defective cavity barriers, which meant the 2019 fire spread so quickly and the victims’ homes could not be saved.

Despite the expert reports, and the victims’ distressing losses, St James and Berkeley continue to deny liability.

Bindmans are continuing the victims’ fight for adequate compensation.

This case has received significant attention, as previously noted in our update here.
