McMillan LLP is pleased to announce that Peter Burn is joining the firm as a counsel in our International Trade Group.

Our team of international trade lawyers are recognized as leaders in Canada, guiding clients through customs litigation and tariffs, matters, economic sanctions and export controls, international trade treaties, and forced labour obligations.

Peter’s expertise in international business and regulation is widely known and will be an asset to our existing team of experts. Peter provides strategic advice to companies and organizations on international law issues related to trade, energy, technology, and the environment.

Peter served as a member of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) from 2015-2023. During that time, he decided over 200 cases on trade remedies, public procurement, and customs.

Before joining the CITT, he was counsel on tax and trade policy to Canada’s Minister of Finance, and he was involved in the development and negotiation of the Canada-U.S Free Trade Agreement.His contributions also extend to environmental governance. He has advised the Department and Minister of the Environment on various climate change initiatives, including bilateral negotiations with the United States.
