A Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica ("Aneel") realizou, em 31 de agosto de 2018, o Leilão A-6 de 2018, para a contratação de energia elétrica proveniente de novos empreendimentos de geração de fontes hidrelétrica, eólica e termelétrica (a carvão, a gás natural e a biomassa), com início de suprimento em 1º de janeiro de 2024.
A demanda continuou baixa, tendo sido contratados apenas 835 MW-médios, a serem gerados por 62 empreendimentos com capacidade total de 2,1 GW, sendo (i) 48 de fonte eólica com 1.250 MW de capacidade; (ii) 11 de fonte hídrica com 457,7 MW de capacidade; (iii) 3 de fonte térmica com 391 MW de capacidade, incluindo duas térmicas a biomassa e somente uma usina a gás natural.
Vale lembrar que o Leilão A-6 de 2018 foi o primeiro certame em que a fonte eólica foi contratada na modalidade por quantidade, em que os riscos de sobras ou déficits são assumidos pelo gerador. Ainda assim, o preço ofertado pelos empreendimentos eólicos apresentou deságio de 60,15% a um preço médio final de R$ 90,45/MWh.
Foi tímida a contratação das demais fontes, especialmente a da fonte termelétrica a gás natural, que contava com 36 projetos cadastrados com uma oferta de 27,6 GW em capacidade, tendo sido viabilizado apenas 1 empreendimento com 0,3 GW de capacidade, ou seja, aproximadamente apenas 1% da capacidade ofertada.
O preço médio do Leilão A-6 foi de R$ 140,87/ MWh, com deságio médio de 46,89%, que representa uma economia de R$ 20,9 bilhões para os consumidores finais.
